Devon Rex - malewhite/ odd eyed |
The Devon Rex is known as the pixie of the cat world. They received this title because of their unique appearance and personality. They were first discovered in Devonshire England in 1960.
Devons are a medium sized cat. Females range from 5-8 pounds and males from 7-10 pounds. They have huge ears which are low set on their head. Their heads are wide, eyes are large and almond shaped. Their coats are short and wavy in appearance. They come in all colors, solid, bi-color, tabby and pointed. Devons go through various stages of coat growth. Usually once or twice a young devon will lose some of their coat, known as blowing coat. It is not unusual to see an almost hairless body on a devon youngster. Generally shedding is very minimal.

The Devon Rex has been known to be very compatible for people who have allergies to cats. They are not non-allergenic but they seem to be a breed that many have been able to live quite well with.
Devons have a very outgoing and intelligent personality. They love to play in a variety of ways. A favorite game of many devons is to retrieve small toys or a scrunched up ball of paper. They do not tire easily. They are an affectionate cat and love to curl up on your lap, snuggle under the covers at night or ride upon your shoulders. They amuse themselves in as many ways as they can discover. Whether it's chasing a toy, finding the highest perch to sit on to get the best view or chattering at a bird outside their favorite window they throughly enjoy themselves as many devon owners can attest to. They are a very loving breed and get along great with children and other pets.
But beware; to have one devon rex in your household to love can lead to more!
